INVITATION TO MARKET-DAY MAY 27:th 2006 |
I have the pleasure to invite our friends in the Baltic states on behalf of the market committee, The Sandvik Market, to take part of our market-day.
The market in Sandvik has been for about 100 years, with respect to development, it ended in the beginning of the 1950´s. We and the local clubs in Persnäs, which is our parish, decided 1987 to pick up this tradition once a year in the end of May. The market committee consist of the sports-club, PAIF, the preservation association, Persnäs Hembygdsförening and Sandviks Kvarn, my tourist company.
The market day starts for the public at 9.00 and ends at 17.00. The market staff starts to work 6.00 in the morning. During the day we use to have some arrangements, like music, old cars, horses, some entertainment's and so on. The Sandvik Market has usually about 5000 visitors and around 40 stalls. It is a small market compared with other, but it is arranged for the local products and local people and also for the owners of summer-houses, who usually visits the island this particular Saturday.
Sandvik is situated on the west coast of the island Öland, 30 km north of Borgholm. We have our own harbour, up to 4 meters deep, no fees for you, 200 meters from the market-place.
This year we will send invitations to our friends across the Baltic and we hope you will attend. With respect to costs we think a good way to come is by boat. The market committee will make arrangements with the customs and the terms will be told you separately. If you have problems with your transport costs, let us know and we try to find you a sponsor! What to bring and what to sell? We think that all kinds of handicrafts are of interest. Paintings and maybe some form of artists will also be nice. I'm sure you have your own ideas, if you want our opinion let us know!
When you are in Sandvik and have the opportunity to spend some hours or a day extra, a local family will take care of you. It will be a party in the evening after the market which I and my wife Ingrid invite you to.
